by Prip As mentioned, Barbara Schett has fallen down the rankings from having to deal with various injuries and ailments, and should have been considered for a seeded position in the draw. Making unbelievable errors and spraying the balls all over the place, Anna acted like a brat on court, throwing tantrums as well as her racquet. Barbara showed much more maturity in both her game and demeanour, playing the percentages and not going too much for the lines. Serving ahead with the first set and a break in the second under her belt, the Austrian had the match in her hands, but tightened up. Playing both tentatively and making more and more errors, Babsi choked the second set away, letting Anna back in the match. Anna never really took control over her game, but she did manage to pick some pieces of it up. More importantly, she was able to come up with the winners, while Babsi countered with even more unforced errors. With conditioning becoming a huge factor at the end under the 36-degree heat, Anna prevailed, and should thank her lucky stars to get through to this match. Her next opponent will be a considerably easier one, but the Russian will definitely have to get her head together soon. |
