by Prip Day four went routinely with the men, the only surprise being Georg Bastl winning against Arnaud Clement 5-7 6-2 6-2. Sebastien Grosjean, Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt all got through to the quarterfinals without too much fuss. The women, however, lost a couple of their stars. Anna Kournikova looked totally out of whack on court, spraying the ball everywhere, and surprising Corina Morariu with the ease in which she was winning the match. Corina, playing in only her twelfth match since her elbow injury, played her shots well, as she had in her previous match, and didn't have to do too much to win 6-2 6-1. Anna hurried off the court, signing a minimum of autographs, and went off to prepare for her doubles match, which she would win 6-2 4-6 7-5 with Barbara Schett against Nicole Pratt and Meghann Shaughnessy. The other surprise of the day was Lisa Raymond, who took out Jennifer Capriati in three sets. Lisa had won their last encounter in Birmingham, although that was on grass, and was well prepared for the match. The two had practiced together a lot, especially for Fed Cup, and Lisa knew what she had to do. She took her chances, made the gamble and it paid off. The Pennsylvanian serve-and-volleyed her way to a 2-6 6-3 7-5 victory, aided by 10 double-faults from Jennifer. Lindsay Davenport, Martina Hingis and Serena Williams got through comfortably. There were times when Martina found herself in trouble against Kim Clijsters, but Wednesday proved an altogether unexciting day at the Sydney International Tennis Centre. Women's Singles second round
