An interview with Jana Novotna after her 6-1, 6-4 third round win over Silvia Farina. I think I was the only reporter who attended the match... and I know I'm the only one who asked her any questions at the post-match press conference. A couple journalists showed up to take notes, but the three queries all came from yours truly...

Q: I thought you played an almost flawless first set out there today and the second wasn't bad either. Are you pleased with how the match went?

A: Sure I am. Yeah, I think I played much better today. Especially in the first set I really was playing really well, very intelligent tennis, and I think that's what you have to do against players like Farina. She's pretty fast on the court. She's very experienced, so that's what I did. And second set a little bit tougher, of course. She started to come in a little bit more, started to be more aggressive, but again, I am glad I have this one behind me and I'm just very happy the way I played today.

Q: Farina had been playing very well this week, both in singles and doubles. Did you expect a tougher match from her today?

A: Sure I did, yeah, and the last time I remember that we played it was a very tough match, so I sure did expect a much tougher match, but you never know. Every match is different, and one time it goes this way, next time it's the other way. So again, what can I say? I'm just very happy.

Q: I guess you and Martina will be playing doubles later today against Kijimuta and Miyagi.

  A: Right.

Q: Will that bring back any memories from Wimbledon?

A: Yeah, you're right. We played them at Wimbledon. I don't think so, no. I think that we will just take this as another match, and they are very good doubles team, so we will have to take it very seriously and try to play it right from the beginning. And you know, hopefully we will do well. Hopefully we will enjoy it as we do always.
