Brie Rippner vs. Daniela Hantuchova
by Prip

The first set was hardly a contest at all, and Aubrie looked firmly in control all the way. Daniela was simply making too many unforced errors, and continued to grow frustrated at both the shots coming off her racquet and the weight of the balls coming at her. Brie looked a little more tired in the second set, but made up for it by alternating smart tennis and powerful shots, biding her time before going for the kill. The Slovakian was getting more and more frustrated by the minute, and it's a wonder her racquet didn't end up in 5 pieces. She'd play aggressively to set the point up perfectly, and go in for the winner, only to see Brie hit an impossible shot from a seemingly hopeless position time and time again. She could only stand and watch the point slip away from her grasp, while her support team had to acknowledge the quality of the shot and could offer little in comfort.

Both players served well in the match, Aubrie getting 7 aces and Daniela getting 4. Daniela played a lot less tense in the second set, and started getting a number of shots she'd missed before, but it was too little too late. Aubrie had the momentum firmly on her side, and the Slovakian simply could not string enough good shots together to get the advantage. The unforced errors just kept coming, particularly on the crucial points, and the third seed managed a 6-2 6-4 victory without expending too much energy. Next up for her would be another heavy-hitter, Sandra Nacuk. Both players are equally capable of hitting the ball, but I'd have to give the edge to Brie, who has more up her sleeve than just hitting the ball hard.
