Thursday's play from the 2000 Advanta Championships featured Russian sixth seed Anna Kournikova facing Australian Nicole Pratt. The winner would face top seed Martina Hingis in the quarterfinals. Kournikova was also in doubles action with Martina Hingis, testing the likes of Conchita Martinez and Patricia Tarabini. Holly Parkinson def. Chanda Rubin walkovr Holly Parkinson of the United States did not even have to take the court to advance to the quarterfinals. Chanda Rubin pulled out of the tournament due to patellar tendinitis in her left knee. Parkinson would face Conchita Martinez in quarters. Anna Kournikova def. Nicole Pratt 6-0, 6-2 Russian number six seed Anna Kournikova made quick work of her Australian opponent, Nicole Pratt in little over an hour. Kournikova was sizzling on the court with her unpenetrating serve and groundstrokes. (4) Nathalie Tauziat def. Daniela Hantuchova 7-5, 6-4 Fourth seeded Nathalie Tauziat had some trouble with her young Slovakian opponent, leveling the their win/loss record to one game each. It was a hard fought match for the 33 year old French woman, but with her experience she prevailed. Julie Halard-Decugis def. (8) Jennifer Capriati 6-4, 6-1 In a reversal of fortunes, in the first evening match of the night, crowd favorite Jennifer Capriati wasn't lucky in reaching the quarterfinals. Julie Halard-Decugis was tact sharp in her groundstrokes and this was the deciding factor. In doubles action, the partnership of Martina Hingis/Anna Kournikova, seeeded 2 at the Advanta, made quick work in less than an hour of the doubles duo of Conchita Martinez/Patricia Tarabini 6-1, 6-1. Veteran doubles pair and number 3 seeds, Lisa Raymond/Rennae Stubbs had little trouble disposing of the American pair Amy Frazier/Katie Schlukebir 6-1, 6-2. Finally, number four seeded French team of Alexandra Fusai/Nathalie Tauziat defeated Petra Rampre/Meghann Shaughnessy 6-4, 6-2. |
