We all lost at least one of our players in the first round. This is even true of Stephen Spainhour, who had a perfect score yesterday. Stephen just lost two points (Seppi and Monfils), and still claims a share of the lead with Sanjeev Bordoloi. Sanjeev lost just one point today (Monfils).

Men's draw

A quintet of prognosticating talent take the lead on a day with some important early results.

Most destructive to our scores was the defeat of 22nd seed Monfils to our Heartbreaker of the Day:

Luis Horna

Monfils had impressed our conestants with his run to he Doha final and was a frequent quraterfinal pick. The stressed-out French lad went out surprisingly to Horna, the Peruvian who has pulled off big Slam upsets before. Particularly at the French Open where he has beaten the likes of Henman and Federer. All in all, a bad day for the young French, as 12th seed Gasquet was also a loser (somewhat expectedly to Haas).

Tomorrow's key second-rounder

Xavier Malisse (BEL) vs. Thomas Johansson (SWE)[10]:
Malisse, a finalist two weeks ago in Adelaide, was picked by 7 contestants to make it through Johansson's bracket. The 2002 AO champ has been having shoulder trouble.

Women's draw

Stephen Spainhour breaks out of a tie here, and assumes the solo lead! Yesterday's co-leaders each lost a point today, with the loss by Dechy (to Yan) being most problematic.

Tomorrow's key second-rounder:

I can't really see anything!
